The Finn Collinson Band
Heralded by The Recorder Magazine as a “folk recorder pioneer”, Finn Collinson is a folk musician and multi-instrumentalist from East Anglia. Still in his early 20s, he is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the foremost exponents of the recorder on the English folk scene, performing at major folk clubs and festivals including The Sidmouth Folk Festival, Broadstairs Folk Week and FolkEast, and being shortlisted for the BBC Young Folk Award in 2018.
Finn’s debut album, “Call To Mind”, was released in September 2019 to widespread critical acclaim. Captivating the listener from the first breath, the album showcases the recorder in new and exciting contexts, with beautifully reflective airs and vibrant tunes. Add to this the expressive tone of Finn’s vocals, his dynamic guitar, bouzouki and mandolin style and the energy of a full band, the album was described by EDS Magazine as “a deeply rewarding display of musical storytelling”.
To support the album release, Finn formed a new band, who completed their first national headline tour in autumn 2019. Featuring young musicians with diverse backgrounds in acoustic, jazz and classical music, The Finn Collinson Band champions unusual instrumentation and places energetic and evocative tunes alongside driving folk-rock songs. The band is looking forward to hitting the road again in 2020 and they are already experimenting with new ways of broadening and developing their sound.
Finn’s music pushes boundaries, challenging expectations in terms of instrumentation whilst remaining firmly grounded in the English tradition. With music that will make you both pause for reflection and dance in the aisles, a performance from Finn Collinson is sure to enthral audiences with its energy and diversity.
